Ok-- many of you know that I love to play video games. Well, heres a couple of videos- for any who are interested. This is one of my favorite characters-- Rayne, from the game "Bloodrayne". You may notice that shes my avatar. Shes half human, half vampire. This is a long video- and starts a bit slow-- but it shows some of the great gameplay you actually participate in. Stay tuned for the "Dark Rayne" portion in the second half. I'm missing out! I haven't played as Dark Rayne before. I was completely mesmerized! (Please-- if you watch-- don't miss the Dark Rayne part. Its actual gameplay- and it shows some of her great moves!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Ye7DQITkQAnd heres the lady who started it all for me! Lara Croft. It was the first Tomb Raider game on the Playstation one that really got me into gaming. Sure, I played some atari as a kid, and even had Pong (yes, I'm old)-- but it was Lara who got me back to playing. This one is actually both Rayne and Lara Croft. I couldn't find a really good Lara Croft one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNawXSLOKgU&feature=PlayList&p=3CC36EFCB566CA39Just wanted to share! [Disclaimer-- if you have issues with videogame violence-- don't watch!)

What?! No comments at all? Oh well.. I'm having fun at least! Lol! Heres another video game character I like. Her name is Fiona- and shes much different from Lara and Rayne. She is not someone who can kick-ass like they do. She actually runs and hides a lot-- BUT... the atmosphere of the game is great. Its great survival horror. THe game is called "Haunting Ground" or in some places "Demento". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccHExCNudxg&feature=fvw Many people who don't understand the interest in gaming haven't really seen all that goes into a game-- the character developement, the visual aspects, the music, the relationships in the game, the puzzles...etc.... This videos fun.. the main relationship Fiona cultivates in the game is with Hewie-- a white german shepard. He is really integral to the game and helps her out a lot. He will attack so she can escape- and will sniff out and search a room and point out areas of interest. The better you treat him-- the more he helps you. You actually have to treat him like a dog-- tell him no when he mis-behaves, and tell him "good boy" when he does good. You can give him treats as well. If you treat him badly and kick him and such-- he will not be there much for you. Even in a game-- I find I can't kick him-- I have to be nice to him! Here it is-- its not very long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-ea3PhskrM&feature=PlayList&p=3CC36EFCB566CA39

I've never played Bloodrayne, but I might pick up a copy to try it out... As far as heroines go I don't know how you can make a list without Samus Aran. She's the most kickass girl of all time. (Skip through the video at first, it's just Master Chief from Halo killing aliens. But it's definitely worth a watch.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n76q2BSGdwAnd from the best video game series of all time, "Legend of Zelda", even Zelda got to kickass as Sheik from time to time in the "Ocarina of Time" on N64. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjIaokM--Pk

Samus Aran is more commonly called "Metroid", although metroids are actually the name of the alien bad guys taking over. Go figure.

That was actually neither, I suppose. Some fan-made sequences.
Just Youtube "Metroid"... it's a Nintendo character. I think her last game was on the Gamecube, not sure if she's gotten a title on the Wii yet or not.

"Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" is the Wii-exclusive title. Nintendo recently released the "Metroid Prime Trilogy" containing both Gamecube titles (Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes) along with Corruption. It's a must-have for any Metroid or FPS fan who has the Wii. Guess who's playing it right now? I'm still in the middle of Echoes. As a video game heroine, Samus is pure mystery and class. You rarely see her out of her varia suit, and mostly only catch glimpses of her face through her combat visor. You do see her during certain cutscenes if you accomplish certain obejctives. She's just an all around classic. Ironically, in the original side-scrolling games, I don't think they made it obvious, or at least never confirmed, that the hero was female. But I've never played those. Lara Croft definitely pioneered the path to mainstream female video game protagonists. That first game was history in the making. I've never played the Bloodrayne games, but I admit I saw the Bloodrayne movie way back when it came out. Fortunately, I don't have high expectations when it comes to based-on-video-game movies, which I've actually seen quite a few of. If you haven't already seen it FF, you might be interested since you're such a Rayne fan.

Holy decapitation! And I thought I knew violent gaming. Her moves are definitely bad ass. I'm guessing they lean towards being mostly scripted and less player controlled? If the player really controls all those things, there seems to be a lot to learn.
I liked the music the maker used in the video. Fit the footage perfectly.

It's a weirdly short list of badass video game gals. A lot of them are cool, but not so many are badass per se.
Ones I can think of: Zoey (Left 4 Dead) - College girl horror film fanatic who finds herself stuck in the zombie apocalypse. Goes totally hardcore killtastic on the zombies, most notably dual-wielding pistols.
Nariko(Heavenly Sword) - Apparently like a female version of Kratos.
Cammy & Chun Li(Street Fighter) - An MI6 Agent and an Interpol Agent who can totally kick the crap out of some really scary dudes.
Morrigan & Lilith Aensland (DarkStalkers) - A Scottish Succubus and her soul clone little "sister".
Ameterasu (Okami) - The Shinto sun goddess, as the main character of Okami she takes the form of a white wolf with all manner of celestial brush powers. Goes around slaying demons and Orochi a Japanese demon hydra thing.
Kitana (Mortal Kombat) - Princess of the Underworld, crazy ninja skillz.
Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy VII and spinoffs) - Martial artist.
Isabela Keyes (Dead Rising) - One of the game's 3 survivors. Apparently prefers giant sniper rifles for her zombie killing.
Rayne (Bloodrayne) Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) Samus Aran (Metroid) Zelda (The Legend Of Zelda)
There's probably a handful from Resident Evil games too. But I've never played them, so I dunno.

Ummm.... I actually wasn't making a list of badass video game gals Arkhan. I was just providing links to some of my favorite characters and games. I haven't finished with my linking yet either! Just don't have a lot of time. And not all of my favorite characters are female-- some of them are male. I've been busy and haven't gotten around to it-- I'm working a 6 day (long days) stretch. I think just looking at my 3rd character Fiona-- anyone can see that this is not a list of badass video vixens. Shes actually pretty weak in many ways. Though the dog Hewie does really well!

Aye. I know it's not. It was just something I noticed that had never really occurred to me before.

I mentioned somewhere else on the forum the 2 Playstation 1 games that I am replaying. This is the first one I replayed== Dino Crisis 2. Awesome game! Yeah- the graphics compared to now aren't comparable, but this is a solid game. Great gameplay and a fun time. Good storyline too. And i like the two main characters- Regina and Dylan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTG2iPkoPvU&feature=PlayList&p=3CC36EFCB566CA39And this is the one I'm playing now-- Parasite Eve 2. I'm almost finished with it. Another great game and storyline! Once again- not up to todays visual standard-- but theres no doubt its an excellent game. I chose this clip, because it shows some of the actual gameplay and not just cutscenes. And also-- another favorite female character-- Aya Brea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ds7eJ7r1CA0&feature=PlayList&p=3CC36EFCB566CA39&index=61

Ok-- before you all think I'm just about dark games and being creepy... heres a beautiful clip from Final Fantasy X. To set up the movie sequence-- Yuna is a summoner. One of her duties is to help send souls on their way. In this clip-- a village had lost many people, whos bodies were then wrapped up and anchored in the water. Yuna releases their souls and sends them on their way. Even though its about death-- I think its a beautifully done clip. Even the music is beautiful. And I love the very last shot of the movie-- with the sun and the water and Yuna. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJPhSapqRtwHeres the opening sequence to the next game "Final Fantasy X-2" introducing Yuna, Rikku and Paine. Its like a futuristic concert! Its the actual song from the game too. Kinda light and fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiXcL06P3ko&feature=related
